- Sunday Scripture Readings
- Reflection on the Scriptures has become
more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times
we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but
we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may
be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately
after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with
the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture
reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday.
In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual
links to the readings.

WEEK
- The Most Holy
Trinity

- Todays Gospel is
the last passage in the Gospel of Matthew. Whereas Luke ends
his Gospel with Jesus ascending to heaven, Matthew ends his Gospel
with the disciples being sent out to the world. Matthew emphasizes
that the Gospel must lead to mission.
- Adults: When will I take the time to pause
and clearly ask the Lord what he wants me to do?
Children: How is God asking me to help someone
in my family or school?
DPSC update: 58 pledges
in the amount of $28,401.00. Thank you for responding so
generously. And please, continue to send in your pledges! HABITAT
FOR HUMANITY - Our goal of $3,000 has been reached and surpassed
-- the total is $3,448! We really appreciate those who contributed
so generously to our annual parish project. The money raised
is important but just as important is the community effort involved.
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS begin this week: 9am
to 5 pm weekdays.
MASS SCHEDULE CHANGES
WEEKEND OF JUNE 13/14
Saturdays 5:15 pm
Sundays 8:30 & 10:30 am
Reconciliation, Saturdays 4:15-5:00 pm TRINITY SUNDAY - The first Sunday after Pentecost was instituted
to honor the Most Holy Trinity. In the early Church no special
Office or day was assigned for the Holy Trinity. In the Sacramentary
of St. Gregory the Great there are prayers and the Preface of
the Trinity. The Micrologies, written during the pontificate
of Gregory VII, call the Sunday after Pentecost a Dominica vacans,
with no special Office, but add that in some places they recited
the Office of the Holy Trinity composed by Bishop Stephen or
Liège. John XXII ordered the feast for the entire Church
on the first Sunday after Pentecost. Since it was after the first
great Pentecost that the doctrine of the Trinity was proclaimed
to the world, the feast becomingly follows that of Pentecost.

- LITURGY BITS AND BYTES
Ascension
The
Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter has traditionally been celebrated
as the Feast of the Ascension. Presently many dioceses have transferred
this feast to the Seventh Sunday of Easter so that it can more
easily be celebrated by all. When celebrated on that Thursday,
it marks the beginning of a novena that concludes with the feast
of Pentecost. During this time we emphasize preparation for the
coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The hymn Veni,
Creator Spiritus can be used each day. In former times
some parishes extinguished the Paschal Candle with great solemnity
to symbolize the departure of the Lord to the right hand of the
Father. Now, it remains near the altar and ambo until the conclusion
of the feast of Pentecost, when it returns to its place near
the Baptistry.

RED
CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
Weve been approached by the Red Cross
about having a Blood Drive this summer here at CTK. Theyd
like to have some idea of how many people would donate blood
so please take a moment to sign up on the Donation Interest
Survey sheet posted on the bulletin board in church. Hopefully,
well be able to schedule a donation date! Collecting
non-perishable food items as OU students leave town
As the OU students leave town, they often have
non-perishable food items they no longer need. Instead of ending
up in a dumpster, how wonderful to make this food available to
the Regional SE Ohio Foodbank!
OU and the City of Athens are helping with
this project by providing four sites in Downtown Athens where
students can bring these items. Would you like to help, too?
These will be set up between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
June 11 through June 14. Will you donate two or three hours on
one of these days? If so, please call Allene Kilgore at 592-2122
to register to help.
The needs are even greater in the summer when
school children are no longer receiving subsidized breakfasts
and lunches at school. All food collected will be distributed
by the Food Bank to pantries and free meal sites in Athens County.
