- Sunday Scripture Readings
- Reflection on the Scriptures has become
more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times
we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but
we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may
be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately
after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with
the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture
reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday.
In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual
links to the readings.

- QUESTIONS OF THE
WEEK
- Twenty-first
Sunday in Ordinary Time
-
- It is part of the human
condition to avoid that which we do not understand. When we hear
opinions that shake our beliefs, we usually criticize the person
who proposed them. Jesus did that with is words on the Bread
of Life.
- Adults: What part of Jesus message
do I find hard to live?
Children: How do I feel when a classmate doesnt
understand my religion?
QUEENSHIP OF THE BLESSED
VIRGIN MARY
In 1954 Pius XII instituted this memorial
so that all may clearly recognize and more zealously venerate
the kind and maternal rule of the Mother of God (Ad Caeli
Reginam). It is celebrated on the octave of the Assumption. May
we always love, serve, and honor Mary, and look to her who, as
Queen, evidences the conquering power of a serving love and of
purity intact (St. Teresa Benedicta/Edith Stein).

- LITURGY BITS AND BYTES
Altar and Ambo
Everyone
knows that the altar, which symbolizes the Body of Christ, is
an important liturgical symbol. In most church buildings, it
is the central focus. Vatican II reminds us of the equal importance
of the ambo and the altar, as the Table of the Word, and the
Table of the Eucharist. Both Word and Eucharist are seen as manifestations
of the real presence of Christ. The real presence of Christ in
the Eucharist has always been primary in Catholic thought. Now
we are reminded to recognize the real presence of Christ in the
word which he speaks to us in the reading of the Scriptures.
The new General Instruction of the Roman Missal (P 29) specifically
states that Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel.
Altar and ambo are interconnected as places from which God nourishes
us, by word and by meal. Our celebration at the table of the
Eucharist is a response of thanksgiving to the word of God which
we have heard.
