PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 8, 2003
PRESENT: Fr. Marty, Moira O'Dea, Susie Shanmugham, Sallie
Sauber, Terre Frost, Juli & John Miller, Jon Sparhawk, Bill
Coffey, Wendy Serbonich, Adam Wickert, Don Peterson, Bob Maher,
Mike Rodriguez, Muriel Grim, Chuck Hammer & Pat Reddan.
ABSENT: Mary Reddan, Carol Wasko (on vacation), & Sally
Owusu-Kwarteng (has Monday evening class this quarter; will join
Council in November).
1. Opening prayer led by Moira
2. Introduction of members
3. Fr. Marty gave brief, overall history of Pastoral Councils
4. Format of meetings
a. begin with prayer
b. business
c. look at past events, accomplishments, etc. of Council
d. connect with other groups; find out what's going on within
those groups
5. Areas of past Pastoral Council planning
a. community
b. worship & opportunities for spiritual growth
c. education-->personal formation for children & adults
d. service; outreach to others
6. Co-chairs & secretary (1 year term)
a. Wendy volunteered to be secretary; Council members agreed
b. Reddans, Sallie, Millers, Bob & Chuck were all nominated
for co-chairs
--Muriel suggested that there would be an advantage to having
both the Reddans & the Millers as our co-chairs
--the Millers & Pat Reddan agreed to this; Council members
approved
7. Possible areas of study for this year
a. Evangelization
--goals of "Go & Make Disciples" document
1. Catholics should be able to hear the Good News about Christ
2. others should also hear & learn about the Good News
3. belief that the Good News can transform our world
b. Stewardship
--identify resources in parish community
--make best possible use of these resources
c. after discussion, Council decided to choose study topic at
our next meeting
7. Current issues
a. Bishop Conlon is spending time in southern part of diocese
in order to get to know the parishes & people better
--Oct. 12: CTK dedication; Youth Rally in Belpre, Rosary in
Marietta
--Oct. 13: meet with Pres. Glidden, Terry Hogan, Fr. Marty;
CTK Pastoral
Council in the evening
--Oct. 14: meet with Council at St. Paul's
--other: Newman (Wed.), RCIA (Thurs.) & St. Francis Society
(Fri.)

b. Bishop wants to meet with Catholic faculty
--Fr. Marty asked Bob, Bill & Mike if they could meet during
after-Mass
Socials to facilitate discussion with faculty
--announcement at Mass Sept. 13/14 & 20/21
c. Bishop will be at St. Mary's of the Hills, Buchtel, on October
19 for the Deanery-wide gathering for the Rosary
8. Fr. Marty passed out the booklets, "Living With Christ"
which are a daily scripture/reflection aide. Hopefully, Council
members will be able to use this in their daily prayer time.
