- THE SEVENTEENTH
SUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME
July 24/25, 2010
-
- Whom do you
know who is seeking the Lord? Can you assist in their search?
-
- Gospel Reflection (Luke 11:1-13): What a wonderful scene Luke paints for us today! The
disciples watch Jesus at prayer. They see how much prayer means
to him. One of them gets up the nerve to ask, Lord, will
you teach us to pray? And Jesus responds by sharing the
Lords Prayer with them. (This is a shorter version than
the one we pray from Matthew 6:9-13.) Then Jesus completes his
lesson prayer by telling two parables. The first urges us to
persist in prayer. The second reminds us that we do not always
pray for the right things. God knows best how our prayers should
be answered.
Discussion Points for Gospel: Imagine
that you are in the group of disciples who asked Jesus to teach
them to pray. Are you surprised that this prayer seems so simple
and easy?
Try praying one line of the Our Father each
day, at various times all during the day. The first day, pray,
Father, hallowed be your name. The second day, pray,
Father, your kingdom come. And so on.
How can you hallow -- make holy -- Gods
name? How can you help Gods kingdom to come? How can you
appreciate and share daily bread and all the gifts you receive
from the Father each day? How can you ask for forgiveness and
give forgiveness to others? (--Sadlier

- Sunday Scripture Readings
- Reflection on the Scriptures has become
more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times
we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but
we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may
be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately
after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with
the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture
reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday.
In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual
links to the readings.

- Todays Gospel encourages
us to approach God with confidence, to address God affectionately
as Father, and to be persistent with prayer until
those prayers are answered.

keeps me from bringing these needs to God and asking God for
help in meeting these needs?
Children: What can I do each day to improve
the frequency and the quality of my prayer?
- DIOCESAN PARISH SHARE

This is the vegetable season. You are invited
to bring any of your produce to Mass to share with parishioners.
There will be a table; we ask people to take something for themselveseven
and especially if you havent brought anything.
There is a grace of allowing ourselves to receive
kindness. Lets see what happens.
Of course, we will not neglect the hungry.
Food not taken will be distributed to the hungry. 2010

Holy Water
Each time we
enter the church we bless ourselves with holy water. That rite
is meant to remind us of our Baptism. Baptism is the way that
we became part of the community of the faithful. It was our entrance
into church (the people of God). It was the way that God made
us Gods children, brothers and sister of Jesus and of one
another. So each time we enter the church we make that sign of
our faith. The font or fonts at the entrance to the church contain
holy water. It is the water that we use to renew our faith and
the water we use to baptize. Those who use holy water as part
of their family prayer can request water to take home.
